Kawakami Tomie art by Shep
Admittedly, I am not a fan of horror. My long suffering husband hoped I would develop a taste but alas, I’m too much of a wimp. Luckily he’s found a merry group of friends who are also fans and will gladly discuss the Halloween series, Silent Hill Junji Ito, etc.
But considering fall has arrived and the temperature is finally dropping I thought it might be fun to explore imagery that goes with the Halloween spirit. From the little I’ve seen of Uzumaki and Tomie (mostly as gifts to the husband)… yeah, that stuff is creepy as hell. Also very unsettling. At first it was a hard pass for design considerations; the level of detail was a bit intense and I wasn’t sure if I could pull off the creepiness.
However the most I stared at it, the more the idea appealed. It’ll be my 3rd rug ever… what could go wrong? (I never knew I was a masochist until now.) I think I may have convinced myself it would be ok since there were only 2 colors. The logic isn’t exactly sound but here we are.
I’ll note, I learned at the latter part of the process, this isn’t actually imagery from Ito. It’s fanart that has been popularized and mistaken for Ito’s work. So well deserved credit goes to Shep@_just_shep_. Definitely have a few things to learn but overall I’m happy with it. I’ve gained enough confidence to ponder tackling those pesky spirals from Uzumaki!
